Will the big game save gaming in Atlantic City?

The NFL subsequently sued to block the law, claiming that it violated an 1992 federal law that restricted sports betting to four states. For one, the decline of New Jersey’s gaming industry has been years in the making and was hastened when lawmakers in neighboring Pennsylvania, a key Atlantic City market, allowed casino gaming. Chris Christie signed into law last week, Atlantic City racetracks and casinos can start accepting sports bets.

Atlantic City’s embattled casino industry, which has lost thousands of jobs this year as money-losing operator shut their doors, shouldn’t expect much of a boost from sports betting, experts say. Professional sports leagues in the U.S.

“I don’t think it’s going to be the lifeline for the casinos,” said Alex Bumazhny, who follows the casino industry for Fitch Ratings, adding that the credit rating agency “doesn’t think it will make a big difference” in Atlantic City.

“The reality is that it’s a big deal for Monmouth Park and that’s it,” said Alan Woinski, the president of Gaming USA, a consulting firm based in Paramus, New Jersey, in an interview, referring to a struggling race track in Oceanport, New Jersey, that under the state’s new law will be able accept sports bets. Supreme Court refused to hear the state’s appeal, leaving the ban in place.

Earlier this month, Brookfield Asset Management, owner of Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, acquired Revel for $110 million, a fraction of the $2.4 billion to build. Atlantic City casino revenue reached a peak of $5.2 billion, and tumbled to $2.86 billion last year nearly two dozen casinos were built within driving distance of the Jersey shore gambling mecca. The Trump Taj Mahal has threatened to shut down next month unless it receives concessions from state officials. and the NCAA have long opposed sports gambling because of fears it would lead to game-fixing. “This isn’t going to save Atlantic City. Though 44 percent of people surveyed by Rutgers-Eagleton poll thought that sports betting was a positive for Atlantic City, another 48 percent were less sure of its value, while another 31 percent thought it would make no difference. The AGA pegs the gross gaming revenue from sports bets at $170 million, a tiny percentage of the $10.9 billion consumers plunked down in the state’s casinos in 2012.

But State Senator Raymond Lesniak, an outspoken proponent for sports betting, pushed through a bill this that year that abolished the state’s existing prohibitions against sports betting. Despite such concerns, Christie initially moved to permit sports betting in 2011 after voters approved a constitutional amendment to legalize it.

A lifeguard boat sits on the beach in front of the closed Revel Casino Sept. “This whole thing is a snow job.”

Under a measure New Jersey Gov. There probably isn’t anything that can save Atlantic City.”

The reasons are many. Florida developer Glen Straub, who submitted the losing bid, is challenging the sale.

“Nobody expected such a bizarre move,” said I. According to data from the American Gaming Association, a trade group, about $3.4 billion was wagered on sports at casinos in Nevada in 2012, though the total amount generated by the state’s casinos race books was much smaller.

Another obstacle is that New Jersey residents are divided over the benefits of sports betting. Over the past few months, operators of the Revel Casino Hotel, which at one time was touted as linchpin of an Atlantic City revival, Trump Plaza and Showboat, closed their doors. 15, 2014 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Still, sports betting is starting up in New Jersey despite ferocious competition from a number powerful interests.

A further damper on sports betting profits at Atlantic City casinos is the fact that it’s legal in Delaware and a handful of other states.

Second, as an economic activity, sports betting isn’t a game-changer. . Nelson Rose, a professor at Whittier Law School who has written a textbook on gaming law, adding he wasn’t sure if New Jersey’s move will survive a court challenge. The state then eliminated all of its laws outlawing sports betting at tracks and casinos. A federal court ruled in the league’s favor, and the U.S. Casino industry experts have argued that it will be difficult for Brookfield to operate Revel as a casino because it never made a profit. But that law comes amid a major slump in gambling in the state

On the American menu: Horsemeat?

They say the ban on domestic slaughter has led to tens of thousands of horses being shipped to inhumane slaughterhouses in Mexico.

However, the USDA gave the OK for slaughterhouses to pay for their own inspections. It was a way to stop the slaughters because meat for human consumption at the time had to be inspected.

The practice of slaughtering horses for human consumption was legal and fairly common in the United States for many years.

It was a last-ditch effort that failed for animal rights groups. “Court fights and state legislative battles have been important, but this is an issue of national importance and scale, and Congress should have an up-or-down vote on the subject.”

About eight miles outside of Roswell, N.M., Valley Meat, a shuttered cattle farm is almost ready to reopen its doors.

Over in Gallatin, Mo., Rains Natural Meats could open as early as today.

In 2005, Congress voted to withhold funding for USDA inspections of horsemeat. In France, the meat is considered to be a delicacy, sold in the same vein as veal in the U.S.

“If I were a betting man, I probably would have lost a lot of money on this,” Dunn said. They also argue that horses should be treated no differently than pigs, chickens and cows.

Across the country, businesses have been applying for permits with the U.S. “I thought the court was headed in a different direction on this since she had issued the TRO.

Supporters, though, say that claims of cruelty are overblown and that while there is some risk in transporting any animal to slaughter, it is not a common occurrence. Department of Agriculture. Congress voted to end the practice in 2007. District Judge Christina Armijo in New Mexico threw out a lawsuit Friday by The Humane Society of the United States and other animal protection groups that alleged the Department of Agriculture failed to conduct environmental studies when it issued permits to Valley Meat Co. I am very, very happy to be wrong.”

Supporters also say that horse slaughtering facilities in the U.S. … They want to ship horsemeat to countries where it is eaten by humans or used as animal feed.

The idea of killing horses for food has triggered strong reaction among people on both sides of the issue.

A 2011 report from the federal Government Accountability Office that shows horse abuse and abandonment have been increasing since Congress effectively banned horse slaughter by cutting funding for federal inspection programs in 2007. in Roswell, N.M., and an Iowa company to slaughter horses for human consumption.

Retail purchase of horsemeat for human consumption in the U.S.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), China is one of the largest consumers of horsemeat. will provide a humane alternative for aging, starving or abandoned horses by owners who can no longer afford to take care of them.

U.S.

De Los Santos estimated it would be seven to 10 days before he was up and running.

“With today’s court ruling and the very real prospect of plants resuming barbaric killing of horses for their meat in the states, we expect the American public to recognize the urgency of the situation and to demand that Congress take action,” Humane Society President Wayne Pacelle said in a statement. companies are clamoring to get back into the game.

. They call the slaughters themselves a “brutal and terrifying end for horses.”

“Horses are shipped for more than 24 hours at a time without food, water or rest in crowded trucks,” the Humane Society says. Department of Agriculture, more than 166,000 horses were sent to Canada and Mexico last year for slaughter.

WASHINGTON –  The slaughter of horses for human consumption could legally resume in the United States as early as this week following a decision by a New Mexico judge who dismissed a push by animal rights groups to stop the practice.

Supporters also take issue with the taboo of eating horsemeat and say the animal is consumed in countries all over the world and could be extremely profitable to American companies interested in the industry. Instead, the court’s ruling ends – for now at least – a two-year battle by Valley Meat to open its slaughterhouse.

The measure to stop the slaughters lapsed in 2011 and now U.S. is not yet approved but the possibility could be coming.

Several animal rights organizations have linked legalizing the practice to horrific abuses and animal cruelty that they claim could lead to unsafe meat. “They are often seriously injured or killed in transit.”

Once at the slaughterhouse, the horses are stunned, the Humane Society claims, adding that because they are skittish animals by nature, the horses often “endure repeated blows and sometimes remain conscious during dismemberment.”

Plant owner Rick De Los Santos and his attorney, Blair Dunn, told USA Today they were surprised when they ruling came down, hours after a temporary restraining order that barred the companies from opening in August had expired.

In a statement following Friday’s dismissal, The Humane Society pledged that it would “not only appeal the decision, but also work with the states to block the plants from opening in Iowa, Missouri and New Mexico and step up its efforts in Congress to stop the slaughter of American horses.”

20 Crazy NBA Facts You Never Knew About

He actually went to med school.

Vince Carter was a drum major in high school. They followed a 10-game losing streak with a 10-game winning streak, sliding their way into the playoffs.

Playing in the NBA is everyone’s dream, but not necessarily for Pau Gasol of the Lakers. We’re talking about things like, “which NBA player had the balls to spit on a young girl, out with her family to watch a basketball game?” Or, “How did the Nintendo Game Boy change NBA history forever?”

The second-most embarrassing sports injury in NBA history goes to Drew Gooden, who saw his 83 consecutive game streak come to an end due to infected leg hair follicles. Seriously? Eyestrain, we totally get. So it might come as a shock that he wasn’t the first overall pick in the 1984 draft. Yes, we’re serious.

A lot has been said about the Miami Heat’s crazy-long winning streak this season. But Barkley missed. New York took it.

Kobe Bryant wasn’t a top-10 pick. Seriously.

Manute Bol claims to have killed a lion with a spear. But we’re guessing they were two great years. That went to Hakeen Olajuwon.

You don’t need to be tall to be a first-round pick. But we are talking about rebounds here. But he wasn’t the first. Apparently, it’s fake. That’s the game with the NBA’s largest margin of victory ever in history.

Wondering what the “T’ in Shawn “T” Kemp stands for? So do we. He only played two years of high school basketball. Impressive, right? What’s more shocking, though, is that his Pistons actually lost the game. In fact, he slipped beyond the first dozen, coming in at number 13. It was the fifth game–the deciding one no less–of the first round of the 1984 playoffs against the New York Knicks. The Toronto Huskies claim the honor. And Chamberlain. At 7’7″, the lion likely mistook him for a giraffe, at least that’s what we assume. Means absolutely nothing.

It definitely doesn’t suck to be Charles Barkley. For real.

The most embarrassing sports injury? That has to go to Lionel Simmons of the Sacramento Kings back during the 1990-91 season. He was sidelined with wrist tendinitis for playing his Nintendo Game Boy too much. No, we’re not talking about the 20,000 women he claimed to have slept with. But in high school? That’s a different story. Hopefully, no PlayStation injuries, though.. And not during his time setting records in the NBA. Barkley was actually cut from the high school team in his freshman and sophomore years. Jokes. Or honour, for our Canadian friends.

Wilt Chamberlain has scored a lot. That would be the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks. Not now with his post-NBA career. Every other original team has either moved or folded since the league started up.

Think the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies (clearly not in Vancouver anymore) were the first Canadian NBA franchises? Think again. Yup. Every NBA sports betting online enthusiasts knows that honor goes to Canadian James Naismith, who invented the sport back in 1891.

Speaking of Charles Barkley, he once spat on a young girl by accident. But we suppose it would improve beer sales in the stands.

Orlando Magic guard Scott Skiles holds the record for most assists ever in a single game. Any guess who got picked sooner? Erick Dampier, Todd Fuller, Vitaly Potapenko, Lorenzen Wright, Kerry Kittles, and Samaki Walker.

Want the answers? Read on for 20 interesting NBA facts you never knew.

Think you know NBA history? No, we’re not talking about things like who invented basketball. On December 17, 1993, The Cavaliers crushed the Miami Heat 148-80. But the Phoenix Suns have an impressive streak of their own back in the 1996-97 season. We’re talking about scoring 2000 points in a single season. He ended up befriending the girl, offering her tickets to future games.

As we approach the NBA playoffs, you can expect some history-making to happen. Another fan, who was verbally assaulting Barkley, was the target of his saliva. But tendinitis? That’s some hardcore Tetris.

Only two teams in the original NBA teams still exist today. He handed out 30 of them against the Denver Nuggets on December 30, 1990.

It turns out Cleveland really does rock. That record was first stamped by George Yardley, who managed to net 2001 points playing for the Detroit Falcons back in the 1957-58 season.

Speaking of rebounding from woman to woman… Wilt holds the record for most rebounds in a single game at 55, set back on November 24, 1960.

Air Jordan is widely considered the greatest basketball player of all time. Muggsy Bogues is the smallest NBA player in history, standing tall at 5’3″.

Isiah Thomas once scored 16 points in 94 seconds. That would make for one long, grueling NBA game. Either way, sucks to be that lion.

Jump balls actually used to happen after every basket

Kentucky Derby 2016: Hats, horses, odds (and odd names)

Why do ladies wear fancy, view-obstructing hats?

It’s a Southern thing. There’s an official Derby recipe, but if you don’t care for exactitude just mix yourself up some sugar, bourbon, water, and crushed mint. The whole shebang will be aired on NBC, with coverage starting at 4 p.m. After hundreds of years and thousands upon thousands of horses, it’s no wonder you have to get a little creative. is excited to see Nyquist Jr. Here’s everything you need to know to get that solid Derby experience. Nyquist (the horse) was purchased by a die-hard Detroit Red Wings fan and named after Gustav Nyquist (the Swedish hockey player). .

Is Nyquist by chance named after an active NHL player?

He totally is. Nyquist Sr.

I know nothing about horse racing but still want to waste some money by randomly betting on a horse. As of mid-afternoon Saturday, his odds to win the Derby stood at 2-1. Pour over ice, and enjoy the good life. More than that, wearing an fabulous, obnoxious hat is thought to bring good luck (at least, to you and whatever horse you have the most money on). ET.

How many horses are running?

The 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, May 7. There’s Mor Spirit and Mo Tom, Danzing Candy and Cherry Wine, Creator and Exaggerator; it’s really a colorful field. You usually have to wait several horse generations to reuse a name, and names that belonged to big winners or Hall of Famers can never be used again at all. Plus, once a name is used, it can’t be used again for a long time, if ever.

Who won last year?

THAT would be Triple Crown winner and all-around good horse American Pharoah. American Pharoah won 2015’s Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, making him the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years.

Why do I keep hearing about mint juleps and how can I acquire one as soon as possible?

Mint juleps are the traditional drink served at Churchill Downs during the Derby, and they are delicious. Post time (the start of the race) is at 6:34 p.m. ET. For instance, names can only be 18 characters (including spaces), they can’t have certain artistic or cultural implications and they can’t be named after real people unless the namer gets permission. perform.

Who has the best odds?

The overwhelming favorite to win the race is a horse named Nyquist, a 3-year-old colt from Kentucky.

Well, Kentucky! Specifically, Churchill Downs in Louisville. The Jockey Club has tight regulations on what kind of names can be used.

Why do they have such weird names, anyway?

Horse naming is a serious business.

How can I watch it?

There are 22 horses running in the Kentucky Derby, each with a name more excellent than the last.

Even if you’re nowhere near Kentucky and you know nothing about horse racing, you may still be thinking of tuning in (or even dressing up a little). Which one has the most excellent name?

We’d have to recommend Suddenbreakingnews, for obvious reasons

Sports :: How to Win at Betting: Sports Gambling Winning Percentage, What You Need to Know

The 55-percent handicapper is using what is commonly referred to as the Wal-Mart Approach, which is to have a lot of volume with the expectation of grinding out a small profit. A winning percentage of 55-percent sure doesn’t sound as sexy as a 60-percent handicapper, but if your volume of plays is high enough, it can certainly be much more profitable.

With baseball season coming back in about 4 months, many sports gamblers will be seeing ads from different sports services claiming winning percentages of 65-percent for baseball, and that’s entirely possibly, but what the services aren’t saying is that the majority of their selections were favorites of -200 or more, turning that 65-percent handicapping into a losing proposition.

The only statistic that sports bettors should be concerned with is units won, which is the amount of profit, or loss, they have over time, and not worry nearly as much about winning percentage. In the question above, it would be much better to be a 55-percent handicapper if you were playing 150 games a month, as opposed to a 60-percent handicapper playing one game a day. And as is the case with the Arkansas-based giant, many times this will be more profitable than being extremely selective and doing a small amount of volume, even if the mark-up is higher.

If somebody were to ask you if you would rather be a 60-percent handicapper or a 55-percent handicapper, which would you choose? The obvious answer is that it’s better to be a 60-percent handicapper, but that isn’t necessarily true.

Making it more difficult for sports bettors is that some sports services will claim to have won 200 units in a particular sport, but don’t mention that they release 10- or 20-unit plays, along with several 100-unit “locks” at the end of the year if things aren’t going so well and they need something to base next year’s advertising on.

For the bettors that do their own handicapping, however, units won is really the only thing you should be concerned with, as that ultimately is going to translate into the bottom line. At the end of the month, the 55-percent handicapper would have gone 83-67 for a gain of 9.3 units, while the 60-percent handicapper would have gone 18-12 for a profit of 4.8 units, so the 55-percent handicapper has made nearly twice as much.

Ultimate Fight Night 21 Betting Odds and Parlay Advice

The fight that immediately stood out once the lines were released for Ultimate Fight Night 21 was Roy Nelson vs Stefan Struve. If you feel like placing the money down it wouldn’t be a horrible move to bet on Tibau or Nelson straight up. I was lucky to hop on the early mma betting lines at BetUS and get Tibau around -200.

The other fights on this card that I feel are worth a look are Kenny Florian vs Takanori Gomi and Nate Quarry vs Jorge Rivera. I feel that this fight was a bit too soon for Stefan Struve who is so young and still developing as a fighter. I’m talking about mma betting parlays and there are some good ones here on this Ultimate Fight Night 21 UFC event. Then you have Mario Miranda a guy that many people feel is gonna have a huge coming out party on this event. Jorge Rivera has been given plenty of chances in the UFC but seemingly loses every fight against name opponents like Chris Leben and Martin Kampmann. That means if you bet $10 you would win $22 if all those fighters win on the card. The first one is a 4-fighter parlay consisting of Gleison Tibau, Roy Nelson, Nate Quarry and Kenny Florian with a payout of 2.2 to 1 or +220. So the mma betting line of -300 for Roy Nelson may seem bad but I consider him a lock to win this fight. Let’s talk about some of these fights and where there is an opportunity to possibly make some money.

From a personal standpoint I would recommend a minimum bet on the 4-fight parlay mentioned above, a minimum bet on a Florian and Quarry parlay and a decent bet on the Nelson and Tibau parlay. As in most cases though these odds are so large for a reason. I don’t think that Jorge Rivera can get this fight down and keep it down long enough to finish while Nate Quarry can land some big bombs standing up and turn off the lights for Rivera. Kenny Florian has looked every bit as a top lightweight runner-up to BJ Penn as he has easily beaten tough guys like Clay Guida, Joe Stevenson and Roger Huerta. Kenny Florian (-300) vs Takanori Gomi (+220)

Roy Nelson (-300) vs Stefan Struve (+220)

Nate Quarry (-300) vs Jorge Rivera (+220)

Gleison Tibau (-300) vs Caol Uno (+220)

Ross Pearson (-230) vs Dennis Siver (+180)

Yushin Okami (-550) vs Lucio Linhares (+375)

If you look at the fights above that are expected to be shown during the Ultimate Fight Night 21 (UFN 21) UFC broadcast there are some big lines and bloated odds. But the mma parlay that I feel the best about in terms of betting on this event is Roy Nelson and Gleison Tibau with a payout of nearly even odds around -120.

I’m probably a little more sold on the betting odds for the fight between Nate Quarry and Jorge Rivera on Ultimate Fight Night 21 (UFN 21). I think Roy Nelson has too much power, too much experience and has the edge standing up or on the ground.

The thought in the mma community is that Jacob Volkmann and Mario Miranda have the possibility to be solid underdogs in their fights against Ronnys Torres and Gerald Harris. If you want to get right down to it often than a close decision I cannot see how Stefan Struve wins this fight. But if you like those mma betting odds and parlays then feel free to check out BetUS at the link below where they also have more odds like UFC 112. I consider myself a fan of both fighters and really was upset to see them matched together at this point in their careers. He has huge wrestling and BJJ credentials both of which will likely be tested big time against Gerald Harris. I don’t feel as confident about these the odds for these Ultimate Fight Night 21 matchups. The size and strength are just gonna be way too much of a factor in this fight. These are from BetUS where they offer some of the best mma gambling options in the business. But the odds do reflect how many people think about the fighters. This fight is destined to go to the ground and probably just as likely to go to a decision. I feel this fight will go the same way but Takanori Gomi has a chance to end it with some good striking power. If you’re interested feel free to click the link at the bottom of the article to join the site.. I didn’t list them yet because usually for undercard fights BetUS waits to release the lines until the day of the event or sometimes the night before on bigger cards. Meanwhile Nate Quarry has beaten everybody he has fought in the last 6 years with the exception of Rich Franklin and Demian Maia. I know that some people stay away from parlays. But there are some interesting ones to pay attention to and see the initial lines when they come out. Unlike many other sites there you can parlay fights together to increase your chances of winning some money.

Now here comes the interesting part of the conversation. Gleison Tibau walks around around 185 pounds whereas Caol Uno weighs right at the 155 pound mark. Jacob Volkmann has the overall game to keep from getting schooled on the ground by Torres but his weight cut is something to keep in mind fighting for 155 for the first time.

It’s worth noting that there are more fights than what was listed above in the article.

When we see Gleison Tibau vs Caol Uno it will probably be the smallest lightweight in the UFC against the largest lightweight. Can you guess how big of a favorite Brock Lesnar is over Shane Carwin at UFC 116?

Suspicious bets mostly around tennis in 2015, report says | Reuters

The review will take at least a year to investigate allegations of corruption in tennis and the effectiveness of existing procedures.

“The data in our Q4 integrity report reflects previous quarters and, whilst tennis constituted the largest proportion of suspicious betting alerts identified by ESSA members, it should be noted that the vast majority of tennis events are fair,” he added.

“The start of 2016 has seen a worldwide focus on alleged match-fixing in tennis,” wrote chairman Mike O’Kane in an introduction.

LONDON Tennis accounted for nearly three quarters of all the suspicious betting alerts issued last year, the European Sport Security Association (ESSA) said in a report published on Thursday.

Tennis was more evenly spread globally, led by Asia (19 cases), Europe (18) and North America (14).

For the whole year, soccer triggered 19 alerts while table tennis, ice hockey, snooker and greyhound racing each featured twice.

The allegations were further fuelled by former Australian professional Nick Lindahl pleading guilty in January to match-fixing in a minor tournament in 2013. But it is not proof or evidence that corruption has taken place.”. Africa accounted for nine.

“All information supplied by betting operators is analysed by the TIU,” a TIU spokesman said in a statement.

The organisation, established by regulated bookmakers to monitor suspicious betting patterns and guard against match fixing in sport, said 73 of the 100 events that raised concern involved tennis.
